West Midlands Fire Service

West Midlands Fire Service covers the seven Metropolitan districts of the region - Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Coventry and Solihull. It is run under the command of the Chief Fire Officer and his principal command team and provides emergency response from 40 strategically located fire stations, employing approximately 2,500 firefighters.

West Midlands Fire Service - Car Fire

The organisation functions under the control of the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority.

The West Midlands Fire Service Control Room, situated in Birmingham city centre, controls all of the 40 Fire Stations in West Midlands area and uses the latest computerised equipment.

We answer over 100,000 emergency calls a year, including calls from other emergency services and general calls from members of public.

Calls are received to many different types of emergency. For instance; house fires, road traffic accidents, people trapped or stranded, buildings in dangerous condition, and many other types of emergency.

We provide a service 24 hours a day, every day of the year including bank holidays. We are here to help you, if and when you need us.

Home Fire Safety Checks

As part of our commitment to your safety at home, we are offering you a free Home Fire Safety Check . This service is carried out by firefighters from your local fire station.

  • Visits will be by appointment only.
  • All appointments will be pre-arranged with you.
  • The firefighters calling will always be in uniform, use an agreed password and show an ID card.

This safety check will look at all areas of accident and fire risk within your home. We will advise you on the installation and maintenance of smoke alarms and also give advice and information on how to stay safe from fire, including kitchen hazards, safe disposal of smoking materials, candles, heaters, electric blankets and dangers from harmful substances.

In addition, we will help you to make an escape plan to prepare you, should a fire occur in your home.
